Kivulekada tank renovations begin

Renovation work on the Kivulekada tank where the tank bund was destroyed for about 120 feet, commenced at a function held under the patronage of Agrarian Services and Wildlife Minister S M Chandrasena recently.

Minister Chandrasena told the gathering present at the function that the government had allocated ten million rupees for the first stage of the reconstruction work.

The destroyed bund resulted in the destruction of two thousand acres of paddy fields making about two hundred farmer families homeless. A temporary dam had been constructed with the cooperation of the Sri Lanka Army to protect the water from flowing away due to the destruction of the bund.

The function was also attended by Irrigation and Water Management Minister W B Ekanayake among others.
