Applications called for Physics and Astronomy Olympiads

Applications are called from schoolchildren who wish to participate at the Sri Lankan Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad competition 2011. Sri Lankan Junior Astronomy Olympiad 2011 and for the Sri Lankan Physics Olympiad competition 2011 to be held on July 2.

The two Astronomy Olympiad competitions will be held after the Physics Olympiad competition facilitating students to face all the Olympiads on the same day. These three Olympiad competitions will be held in Sinhala, Tamil and English at the examination centres in Peradeniya, Kelaniya, Ruhuna, Batticaloa, Jaffna and Vavuniya.

Those who do well in the national competition will be given medals and certificates at national level. A maximum of five selected students who excelled at the Sri Lankan Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad will be sent to Poland in August or September 2011 to participate at the 5th International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA).

The deadline for receiving applications for all three Olympiads is June 15, 2011.
