GL off to Singapore
External Affairs Minister Professor G.L. Peiris left for Singapore
yesterday to participate in the 10th Asia Security Summit, known as ‘The
Shangri-La Dialogue’ which brings together Foreign Ministers and Defence
Ministers from all over the world to address security-oriented issues.
The focus this year is on the Asia-Pacific region.
Prof. Peiris has been invited to address the plenary sessions on the
topic, “Armed Forces and Transnational Security Challenges”.
On the sidelines of this conference, he will have bilateral
discussions with Dr. Liam Fox, Secretary of State for Defence of the
United Kingdom, Mr. Sergei Ivanov, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian
Federation, Steven Smith, Minister of Defence of Australia, K. Shanmugam,
Foreign Affairs and Law Minister of Singapore, and Professor S.
Jeyakumar, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Singapore and former
Professor of Law in the National University of Singapore.
