Full probe will be carried out - Minister

Roshen Chanaka (22), an employee of Minuwangoda attached to the Free
Trade Zone who was injured during the clash between the Police and
employees, died Wednesday due to injuries received during the clash.
Ragama Judicial Medical Officer Keerthi Gunathilake who performed the
autopsy stated that death was due to firearm injuries. Dr PTDC Fernando
and ULSS Perera also of the Ragama Hospital assisted Dr. Keerthi
Gunathilake.
After the post-mortem inquiry the body of Roshen Chanaka had been
handed over to the relations of Roshen.
He is the fourth in the family of five children.
His body is now lying at his residence at Minuwangoda Galoluwa.
Meanwhile, a full scale investigation will be carried out by the
police together with Criminal Investigation Department (CID) into the
death of Roshen Chanaka, an employee at the Katunayake Free Trade Zone
who was killed in Tuesday’s clashes, Cabinet Spokesman and Media and
Information Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said.
Chanaka passed away while receiving treatment at the Ragama Teaching
Hospital for severe injuries following clashes between the police and
the Free Trade Zone employees against the proposed private sector
pension bill which was to be submitted to Parliament. During the protest
the police were attacked by thousands of protesters instigated by the
JVP. As a result of the clash some protesters and 115 Police personnel
including senior police officers were injured.
Meanwhile, President Mahinda Rajapaksa appointed a committee with
immediate effect to look into this incident. The committee was advised
to submit its report within five days. |
