Race walking, road race and cycling at Puttalam

Race walking, road race and cycle race of the 37th National Sports
Festival will be held on June 4 at Puttalam. The event is organized by
Sports Ministry and Sports Development Department.
The road race will start from Puttalam Main Bus Station at 5.45 am
and finish at the same point while the race walking starts at 6.15 am at
the same venue.
The boys’ cycling event starts at 9.30 while girls’ race starts 15
minutes later and all cyclists should be over 17 years of age as at
December 31, 2010. The boys’ road race will cover a distance of 10 km
and the girls will have to run half of that distance. The open marathon
will cover a distance of 42.195 km and will take the same route. The
race walking a distance of 20 Km will be a tough competition as many
famous race walkers are in line for the event.
The mens cycling event will cover a distance of 133.1 km while the
cyclists will ride along Puttalam – Kurunegala main road to Wariyapola
and return while the women will ride upto Anamaduwa town and return.
Registration takes place at St Andrew Boys’ School and at Fathima
Girls School, Puttalam from 2.00pm today and they should produce
themselves for medical tests. Valuable cash awards are on offer for the
top 10 performers in each category.
