Army emerge champions of Mobitel Relay Carnival

Sri Lanka Army men’s and women’s ‘A’ teams emerged champions in the Inter Club Relay of the Mobitel Relay Carnival 2011, concluded at Mahinda Rajapaksa International Sports Complex yesterday.

Army men’s A team had 54 points for their team effort while their women’s team succeeded in collecting 51 points to surpass the other clubs.

Maris Stella College, Negambo grabbed Mobitel Challenge Cup in the boys’ inter - school category by collecting 109 points while A Ratnayake Central College, Walala who gained 118 points won the girls’ championship.

A Ratnayake Central College, Walala dominated the school category by winning five championships to retain their reputation in the field of athletics.

The event concluded with 18 new meet records, 15 in Inter School Category and three in the Inter Club format.

The trophies were given away by Damian Mortier and Pubudu Indatissa of Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel , Athletic Association of Sri Lanka President Major General Palitha Fernando and AASL Secretary General G L S Perera.

Boys under 13- Association Challenge Cup, St Benedict’s College, Colombo – 27 points

Boys under 14- Lanka Lions Challenge Cup, Maris Stella College, Negambo – 24 points.

Boys under 16- Colombo District Challenge Cup Trinity College, Kandy – 31 points.

Boys under 18- Nationalize Services Challenge Cup, A Ratnayake Central College, Walala – 42 points.

Boys under 20 – Lanka Lions Challenge Cup, A Ratnayake Central College, Walala – 42 points.

Inter Club Relay Champions , mens – A Lakshaman De Alwil Memorial Challenge Cup, Sri Lanka Army ‘A’ relay team – 54 points

Mobitel Challenge Cup boys’ Maris Stella College, Negambo- 109 points

Girls under 12 -Col P S S R Udayadeera Memorial Challenge Cup,

Musaeus College, Colombo- 20 points.

Girls under 13 – Association Challenge Cup, Mahamaya Balika MV, Kandy – 30 points.

Girls under 14 - Association Challenge Cup, Maliyadeva Balika MV, Kurunegala – 27 points.

Girls under 16 - Association Challenge Cup, St Joseph Balika MV, Kegalle – 34 points.

Girls under 18 - Association Challenge Cup, A Ratnayake Central College, Walala- 37 points.

Girls under 20 – Lt K A Karunaratne Memorial Challenge Cup, A Ratnayake Central College, Walala – 49 points.

Girls -Mobitel Challenge Cup, A Ratnayake Central College, Walala – 118 points.
