Make best use, NCC chief tells undergrads

The inauguration of Leadership and Positive Attitude Development Programme for university undergrads was held under the patronage of National Cadet Corp Director Major General GBW Jayasundara at the NCC Training Centre Rantembe in line with the national ceremony held under the aegis of President Mahinda Rajapaksa at Temple Trees.

Addressing the university students, NCC Director GBW Jayasundara said that the government spends a lot of money on education. "Only 10 percent students in Sri Lanka are fortunate to get university entrance through free education compared with other countries. It is your duty to serve your motherland. You must have compassion towards your parents, country and the nation. You must extend your assistance to the government's in its endeavour in developing the country," Jayasundara said.

He said of the trainees 30 percent are Sinhalese while the rest are Tamils and Muslims.

"It is essential to have a good understanding among the communities to build unity. This is an era in which peace is dominating everywhere in Sri Lanka after terrorism was defeated," he said.

Jayasundara said that this theoretical and practical training will give a solid foundation and self-confidence to university students who have excelled in A-Ls to become future leaders.
