CEB collects Rs 200,000 from power pirates

The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) Colombo Special Investigation Unit Flying Squad officials have collected nearly Rs 200,000 as court fines and compensation from power pirates during raids conducted on May 21 and 22 in the Yakkalamulla Police division in the Galle district.

CEB conducted nine operations during the two days.

Among the offences were illegal power tapping from the national grid and manipulating electricity metres, CEB official said.

The power pirates were prosecuted in the Magistrate's Court, Baddegama.

Investigations were led by K G Saranadasa attached to Southern Regional office of the CEB.

Yakkalamulla Police assisted in the raids.
