Church feast
The annual feast of Pooneryn Velankanni Matha church will take place
on May 31. The church was badly damaged during the war. The people who
have resettled in Pooneryn are celebrating the feast with pomp,
dedication and devotion for the first time after the war.
Vice Principal knocked down
Atchuvely St. Theresa Maha Vidyalaya vice principal Rajamalar
Rajadurai (60) was knocked down by a tractor and her head was crushed
under the wheel of the tractor. She died on the spot. She was returning
from a temple after worship when the accident occurred near Ulavikulam
Pillayar temple on May 28.
The driver of the tractor had disappeared from the scene and
surrendered at Atchuvely police station. The Atchuvely police are
investigating.
Burn victim succumbs
A woman who set fire to a heap of garbage at Polygandy in
Vadamarachchy by spraying petrol over it was suddenly engulfed by the
raging flames and was severely burnt. She succumbed to her burns at the
Jaffna Teaching hospital.
She was identified as Seenithamby Sutharsana (22) of Polygandy. |
