Chris DHAMBARAGE
Trinity College Kandy brought an end to the defending champions St
Peter’s unbeaten record this season when they pulled off a smashing 34
points to 10 points victory in their Singer inter school under 20
Division One League rugby tournament match worked off at Bambalapitiya
yesterday.
The Trinitians despite performing away from home got their act
together well from the kick off and went on to collect their points from
two goals and four tries after having snatched a close 12-10 lead at
half time.
The Peterites after an unbeaten run last year and with five
successive victories this season finally met their Waterloo as they were
completely outplayed and managed to score just two unconverted tries.
In fact Trinity College virtually had their own in the second half
with a tremendous performance where they added a further 22 points to
their tally in the form of one goal and three tries while conceding
none.
The match was almost even after 60 minutes of play with Trinity
College building up a 17-10 lead with an additional try shortly after
the interval. However thereafter the game turned into a one sided
contest with a fierce late rally from the visitors.
Trinity College really showed their class during the last ten minutes
of play while crossing their opponent’s goal line on three occasions to
complete a convincing victory at the end. They also avenged their last
year’s 10-31 defeat against St Peter’s at Pallekele.
Winger Mohamed Shehan had a splendid game for the Trinitians with
three tries while prop forward Bhasu Karunatilleke, fly half Rehan
Weerakoon and winger Thisila Karunatilleke scored a try each.
Centre three quarter Sandun Herath and number eight Isuru Alwis
scored a try each for St Peter’s College.
Isipatana rout Wesley
Isipatana College came out with their best performance in the current
season as they trounced Wesley College by 46 points to 3 points in their
Singer inter school under 20 Division One League rugby tournament
fixture worked off at Havelock Park yesterday. Isipatana completely
dominated the game from the kick off and went on to collect their points
from three goals and five tries after having led 26-3 at half time. The
Wesleyites responded with a solitary penalty.
Skipper Prasad Devinda and Prasad Madushanka scored two tries each
while Anjana de Costa, Chamal Chaturanga, Shenal Dias and Shanaka Kumara
scored a try each with the latter converting three tries.
Science beat Thurstan

College by 30 points to 15 points in their Singer inter school Division
One League rugby tournament match worked off at Mount Lavinia yesterday.

in the second half to turn the game in their favour while collecting
their points from one goal, four tries and one penalty.
Thurstan after a promising start failed to sustain their position and
managed to score only one goal, one try and one penalty.

St Joseph’s College put up a magnificent performance to topple the
more fancied Kingswood team by 30 points to 10 points in their Singer
inter school under 20 Division One League rugby tournament match worked
off at the Royal Sports Complex yesterday.
