Special traffic plan in Matara

A special traffic plan will be in place in Matara town for smooth flow of traffic during the procession starting at the Histroic Matara bo tree parallel to the 2600th Sambuddhatva Jayanthi national ceremony, the police said.

The procession will start at 7 pm today and pass Mahanama bridge, S K junction and new Tangalle road. It will turn right from the Pallimulla Sambodhi Mawatha and reach the Army statue in Tanayama junction.

The police said that the traffic will be diverted to alternative routes during the the procession to avoid traffic jams. Alternative bus halts are arranged for the buses traveling from Colombo to Galle. All vehicles passing Matara to Kataragama and Colombo will also be diverted to alternative routes, the police said.

People travelling to the airport and ambulances and vehicles carrying critical patients will be allowed to take alternative routes to enter the Matara - Colombo Main road from Pamburana junction to reach Colombo during this special traffic plan.
