KOICA helps indigenous medicine improvement
Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and the Indigenous
Medicine Ministry jointly conducted an oriental medicine mobile clinic
at Kappalthurai District Ayurvedic Hospital, Trincomalee from May 9 to
11.
This was as part of the World Friends Advisors (WFA) programme under
KOICA's technical cooperation programme to Sri Lanka.
Korean oriental medicine doctor Han Gyu-eon has been working for the
Korean Clinic at the National Ayurvedic Teaching Hospital, Colombo since
he came here last November.
His mission is to treat Sri Lankan patients and teach the Korean
Acupuncture Technology to students under KOICA's WFA programme.
Many Sri Lankan patients suffer from chronic diseases, knee joint and
back pain, respiratory diseases etc. Dr Han established the acupuncture
treatment facilities to cure them.
The mobile clinic was established to provide better oriental medicine
treatment service to residents in remote areas from Dr Han's experiences
and knowledge gained during studies and practices in oriental medicine
in Korea and ayurvedic doctors in Sri Lanka also participated in the
mobile clinic.
At the two-day mobile clinic, DR Han and 13 Sri Lankan Ayurvedic
doctors, who completed the acupuncture course jointly treated 1,074
patients and held the 'Now and Future, Indigenous Medicine in Sri
Lanka'. |
