Ministry bans carbide to ripen fruit

The Health Ministry has banned the use of carbide to ripen fruit.

The ministry which has drawn its attention to fruit sellers using chemicals to ripen fruit, states that too much of chemicals to ripen fruits will harm consumers.

The Health Services Director General has issued a circular to regional health directors, district health services directors and chief medical officers of Municipal Councils in this regard.

Health authorities have been directed to make fruit sellers aware of these instructions.
