Peterites face tough opposition today

Defending champions and the table leaders St. Peter's College will face an acid test when they confront Trinity College Kandy in a key Singer inter school Under 20 Division One League rugby tournament fixture at Bambalapitiya today.

The Peterites have not yet faced any tough opposition so far in the tournament having made a clean sweep with five successive victories against Science College (48-7), Thurstan (61-6), Dharmaraja (54-5), Wesley (62-7) and St. Anthony's (42-10).

However this time they are certain to be tested by a much improved Trinity outfit which has recovered well after their shock defeat at the hands of Science College three weeks ago.

The Trinitians had the better of Wesley College 48-13 in their previous outing having earlier defeated St. Joseph's College 38-10. They also had the satisfaction of recording a massive 75-6 win over S. Thomas' College Mount Lavinia and went on to beat St. Anthony's (10-3) and Kingswood (41-0). St. Peter's College will have their home advantage as they look to stretch their unbeaten record and move closer towards retaining the League title for the second successive year.

The Peterite three quarters will cause the biggest threat to the Trinitians with dashing center Danushka Ranjan set to make his presence felt once again having already planted a total of 18 tries for the current season.

Isipatana College will be looking to register their fifth victory in the Singer Division One League tournament when they take on Wesley College in another inter school encounter at Havelock Park today.

Isipatana are fresh after their 29-23 triumph over St. Joseph's College last week and will be hoping to consolidate their position in the tournament. Wesley of course are capable of creating an upset and have come closer of doing so on a couple of occasions this season.

St. Joseph's College will be hoping to bounce back when they take on Kingswood College Kandy in their Singer inter school Under 20 Division One League tournament match at the Royal Sports Complex today.

St. Joseph's College who made a promising start to the season will be keen to get back into the winning ways following their 23-29 defeat at the hands of Isipatana College last week.

This match is also important for Kingswood College who suffered a demoralizing 17-20 defeat at the hands of the giant killers Science College at Mount Lavinia in their previous outing.

Science College look set to pull off their third victory in the current season when they take on Thurstan College in another Singer inter school under 20 Division One League rugby tournament match at Mount Lavinia today.

Science College are brimming with confidence following their stunning 20-17 win over the more fancied Kingswood team in their previous outing last week. In contrast Thurstan are still recovering after their 72 nil drubbing against Royal and will be under tremendous pressure to restrict their opponents.
