Kidnap case:
Warrant issued on contractor

Kesbewa Magistrate Chamath Madanayake issued a warrant on contractor
Chitrasena, a suspect in the kidnapping and criminal intimidation of a
grand niece of a senior judge and conspiracy to fabricate evidence
against the judge.
The magistrate issued warrant on the suspect Chitrasena, who failed
to appear in court when the case was called on Monday.
The magistrate also issued notice on Nihal, the surety of Chitrasena
to appear in court on the next date June 17.
The Piliyandala Police have filed reports against K K Chandrasena, D
G Chitrasena, Rohan Wettasinghe and Anusha Bandaranayake in connection
with conspiracy to fabricate evidence against a senior judge, abduction
and wrongful confinement of the grand niece of the judge.
The magistrate directed the Piliyandala Police to submit a
comprehensive report in connection with their ongoing investigations
about the case. The court also issued notice on the National Child
Protection Authority who are conducting investigations into the
conspiracy, to be present in court on the next date, June 17.
President’s Counsel Rienzie Arasacularatne, senior counsel for the
complainant judge, submitted to court that the suspects in the case had
conspired against Judge Sarath de Abrew and abducted the Judge’s grand
niece and threatened her and conspired against the complainant judge.
She had made several statements to that effect to the Piliyandala
Police, who are now conducting investigations into her statement. The
judge’s grand niece had made a further statement to the Piliyandala
Police stating that an army personnel who is living close to the judge’s
residence had telephoned on her mobile and threatened to kill her, the
President’s Counsel submitted.
Earlier the court issued an open warrant for the arrest of the first
suspect Chandrasena, who is evading arrest for the last seven months.
Chief Inspector Mahesh Bandara OIC, Piliyandala with WIP Daya Perera
appeared for the Piliyandala Police who is conducting investigations on
the direction of Mount Lavinia Senior SP Hemantha Adikari. President’s
Counsel Rienzie Arasacularatne with Attorney Nihal de Silva and Wasantha
Watagoda appeared for the complainant.
The Magistrate directed the case to be called on June 17, 2011. |
