Tharunayata Hetak celebrates International Mothers' Day
Tharunayata Hetak celebrated International Mothers' Day on May 8 at
the Colombo Municipal Council's Maternal and Child Welfare Centre in
Rajamalwatte, Modera.

The aim of the project was a concept of Hambantota District Member of
Parliament Namal Rajapaksa who is also the Tharunyata Hetak organization
chairman, to give ultimate value to mothers, motherhood and maternal
bonds in general, as well the positive contributions that they make to
society.
Several educational programmes were conducted by professionals to
educate pregnant women about the importance of proper nutrition and
psychological balance during the pregnancy to give birth to a healthy
baby, who would fulfill his or her duty in society towards the
development of Sri Lanka in the country's pursuit of the Wonder of Asia
status.
A nutritional pack to the value of Rs 1,750 was also distributed
among 200 pregnant women from low income families.
National Youth Services Council Chairman Lalith Piyum Perera was the
chief guest. Colombo Municipal Council Chief Medical Officer of Health
Dr. Pradeep Kariyawasam, Mead Johnson Nutrition Marketing Manager
Prabath Pathirana, Tharunyata Hetak Medical Affairs Director Dr. Chula
Senaratne, Dr. Ramani Ramanayake of CMC, Savithri Panditharatne and
Kithali Jayawickrama of Tharunyata Hetak participated as special
invitees.
