Bus passengers robbed of cash, valuables

The early morning bus from Angunakolapelassa to Colombo was forcibly stopped and its passengers robbed of cash and jewellery valued at around Rs 600,000 on Wednesday. The bus was intercepted at Mullediyawela area in the Panamura Police division at around 1.30 am, Police said. The bus was suddenly stopped by six persons who threatened the people with knives.

Police said there were around 40 people in the bus which was plying via Meddeniya. The robbers collected the money as well as the jewellery from the men and women passengers. Police said they are yet to trace the suspects. Two Police teams are conducting investigations. A team of police men led by Panamura Police OIC Sub Inspector Siripala Lokuhetti Mudali are conducting investigations under the direction of ASP Krishantha.
