Caught with firearm parts

Two American citizens were arrested late at night on Wednesday with parts of a firearm in their possession at the Bandaranaike International Airport.

They had attempted to smuggle the firearm parts on a US bound flight.

Police said the duo were found with the parts of an M 16 weapon hidden in their bags when their belongings were checked by the officials at the airport around 10.40 pm.

Police Spokesman SP Prishantha Jayakody said that they were to leave Sri Lanka on a US bound Qatar Airways flight.

He added that the CID was investigating how they came into possession of the firearms and what their intention was.
