Eastern Province incidents:

President seeks full scale report

UPFA General Secretary and Petroleum Industries Minister Susil Premajayantha in a media release yesterday said that President Mahinda Rajapaksa has sought a full scale report from the IGP Mahinda Balasuriya over a series of incidents that took place in the Eastern Province during the last few days.

The President had made these directives when he met Eastern Province Chief Minister Sivanesaturai Chandrakanthan and TMVP representatives at Temple Trees yesterday.

The IGP had been ordered to implement a special mechanism to prevent the recurrence of such incidents in the Eastern Province.

The release said that President Rajapaksa has stressed the importance of strengthening peace in the Province.

He has said that all people should give their utmost support to the police to discharge their duties.

Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa, Central Province Chief Minister Sarath Ekanayake IGP Mahinda Balasuriya and Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga participated in the meeting.
