The Institute of Charted Accountants of Sri Lanka (ICASL)
ceremonially laid out the foundation stone recently for the new
six-storied building worth of Rs 400 million in order to cater to the
growing demand for accounting professionals. The internally funded
project is expected to be completed in 15 months.
The ICASL hopes to tap the fullest post war potential by expanding
the infrastructure of the institute while maintaining international
accounting standards and practices at a greater level.
Speaking at the ceremony, Co-operatives and Internal Trade Minister
Johnston Fernando said that ICASL has embarked on a new journey to
create more accounting professionals to back the economic drive. ICASL
has rendered its service by producing qualified accountants in the
Government and the private sector.
“Financial accounting scope has to be expanded and has to come up to
the global standards. We see a huge demand for financial accounting in
the competitive business education sector. Its importance has also been
recognized by the students due to its ability to generate more jobs.
Financial Management is a key element, which helps to achieve the
‘development hub’ status pursued by the Government. ICASL will play a
pivotal role and shoulder the above responsibility in the crucial period
ahead,” the Minister said.
He also said that the ICASL will assist in maintaining the good
governance among all stakeholders, in keeping with highest principles
and professionalism.
At present, ICASL consists of over 36,000 student-base and members
amounting to over 4,000.
