Sea of heads at Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi

Devotees in thousands thronged the Anuradhapura Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi
early yesterday to celebrate the 2600th Sambuddhatva Jayanthi. Ruwan
Weli Maha Seya, Mirisawetiya, Thuparamaya, Abhayagiriya, Jethavanaramaya,
Mihintalaya and other places of worship were a sea of heads, with
devotees participating in dana, seela and bhavana.

The annual kiripidu pooja offering was taken in procession from
Anuradhapura Sri Sambuddhatva Jayanthi Vihara to the Bodhi Maluwa.
Atamasthana chief prelate Ven Pallegama Siriniwasa Thera made
offerings to the Sri Maha Bodhi and held religious rituals.
The seela, samadi and bhavana programmes organised by the Ape Gama
Sanvardana Padanama and held for the fifth time under the patronage of
Chief Incumbent of Mirisawetiya, Ven Eethalwetunewewa Gnanathilaka,
attracted a large crowd.
A large crowd offered alms and refreshment to devotees who observed
sil at the Sri Maha Bodhi and Mahamevuna Uyana.
All temples in Anuradhapura organised special religious programmes
and Dansal for devotees.
