Rathnayake Central take major honours

Walala A. Rathnayake Central College emerged senior boys and girls
champions by scoring 148 and 202 points respectively in the Sri John
Tarbat Senior Schools Athletic meet which concluded at the Sugathadasa
Stadium yesterday. Maris Stella College Negambo who collected 144 points
grabbed the boys outstation championship while Sumana Balika Maha
Vidyalaya with 164 points won the outstation girls championship.

Sumal Ranasinghe of Maris Stella College Negambo who set up a new
record in the long jump event with 7.57 metres was adjudged the best
athlete. S R J P Senaratne of St Joseph’s Girls College won the best
girls athlete award. She crossed the 200 metre line in 25.6 seconds.
Meanwhile J L Prasanjith of Thakshila MMV Horana set up a new record
in the under 18 boys hurdles with a timing of 55.2 seconds while Sanjuna
Sumanaweera of Royal Institute Colombo broke the record for the discuss
throw with an effort of 44.83 metres.
A S Lakshika Silva of Madurankuliya Model School won the girls
javelin event clearing a distance of 39.16 metres to enter her name in
the record list.
Maris Stella College Negambo with 144 points emerged runners up in
the boys overall category while Trinity College, Kandy who scored 65
points won the third place.
Sumana Maha Vidyalaya Ratnapura who collected 164 points became the
runner up while St Josephs Girls College Kegalle had to be satisfied
with the third place with 108 points.

41 points, 2. Maris Stella College Negambo - 32 points, 3. St Benedict’s
College/St Anthony’s College Kandy - 24 points.
Under 18 boys: 1. A Ratnayake MMV Walala - 50 points, 2. Thakshila
MMV Horana - 30 points, 3. Joseph Vaz Wennappuwa - 26 points.
Under 20 boys: 1. Maris Stella College Negambo - 91 points, 2. A
Ratnayake College Walalla - 90 points, 3. St. Peter’s College,
Bambalapitiya - 24 points.
Field events boys: 1. Maris Stella College Negambo - 51 points, 2.
Royal College Colombo - 37 points, 3. A Ratnayake MMV Walala - 35
points.
