Industrialists, exporters to benefit

A special unit to address problems and issues confronting local industrialists and exporters has been set up by the Industries and Commerce Ministry jointly with the Export Development Board.

Industries and Commerce Minister Risarth Bathiuththeen who disclosed this at a meeting attended by rubber and rubber based industrialists and exporters, said the unit will start operations next month to find instant solutions to problems of industrialists and exporters in association with relevant ministries and institutions.

An Information Department release said rubber and rubber based products amounted to Rs 737 million US dollars or 8.8 percent of the total export earnings of the country in 2010. It is hoped to increase this to one billion US dollars in 2015.
