‘Erudite monks needed to light up Buddha Sasana’
‘Erudite and disciplined Buddhist monks are needed to light up the
Buddha Sasana, said Parliamentary Affairs Secretary to the President
Kumarasiri Hettige. He was participating as the chief guest at a Budhu
Puth Harasara programme held recently at Pushparama Vihara, Deniyaya to
felicitate the Maha Sangha.

Scholarships were awarded to 25 Samaneras, school uniforms were
distributed among 1,000 schoolchildren, chairs were handed over to
Dhamma Schools and sewing machines were donated to the self-employed.
The felicitation ceremony was held under the guidance of the chief
incumbent of the International Buddhist Centre, Wellawatta Ven.
Maharagama Mahinda Thera.
“A great society can be built on the principles of the doctrine of
Buddhism as it is replete with noble qualities. It incorporates
overarching principles of peace, democracy and socialism,” Kumarasiri
Hettige said.
Meanwhile, the first Budhu Puth Harasara programme initiated on the
concept of Wellawatte International Buddhist Centre Chief Prelate Ven.
Maharagama Mahinda Thera was held at the Wellawatta International
Buddhist Centre recently. The main objective of the programme is to
support the education of Samaneras from remote areas of the country. |
