‘Erudite monks needed to light up Buddha Sasana’

‘Erudite and disciplined Buddhist monks are needed to light up the Buddha Sasana, said Parliamentary Affairs Secretary to the President Kumarasiri Hettige. He was participating as the chief guest at a Budhu Puth Harasara programme held recently at Pushparama Vihara, Deniyaya to felicitate the Maha Sangha.

Samaneras are arriving at Pushparama Viharaya from the Deniyaya town for the Budhu Puth Harasara programme.

Scholarships were awarded to 25 Samaneras, school uniforms were distributed among 1,000 schoolchildren, chairs were handed over to Dhamma Schools and sewing machines were donated to the self-employed.

The felicitation ceremony was held under the guidance of the chief incumbent of the International Buddhist Centre, Wellawatta Ven. Maharagama Mahinda Thera.

“A great society can be built on the principles of the doctrine of Buddhism as it is replete with noble qualities. It incorporates overarching principles of peace, democracy and socialism,” Kumarasiri Hettige said.

Meanwhile, the first Budhu Puth Harasara programme initiated on the concept of Wellawatte International Buddhist Centre Chief Prelate Ven. Maharagama Mahinda Thera was held at the Wellawatta International Buddhist Centre recently. The main objective of the programme is to support the education of Samaneras from remote areas of the country.
