Sambuddhatva Jayanthi celebrations in Vavuniya

Sri Sambuddhatva Jayanthi special celebrations will be held from May 18 to 20 at the Tamil Central College, Vavuniya with the participation of Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim children under the Nena Guna Weduma Sisu Diriya programme.

The celebrations will be held on the theme “Samaya, Sahajeewanaya saha Vividathwaya 2011” (peace, unity and variety 2011) under the patronage of the Northern Province Governor G A Chandrasiri.

Essay, Bakthi Gee and Vesak lantern competitions, alms-givings, observances of Sil and other events will be held under this programme. Over 10,000 schoolchildren representing all nationalities will participate, said a member of the organizing committee.

The Nena Guna Waduma Sisu Diriya programme was introduced by President Mahinda Rajapaksa under the Uthuru Vasanthaya Rehabilitation programme of the North for social integration of youth and schoolchildren who were directly affected by terrorism.
