Police arrested an underaged boy in Padiyatalawa who stole a T-56 machine gun and 30 bullets from a Police checkpoint, and also a motor bike in Badulla while fleeing from a detention centre.

The boy robbed both the motor bicycle and the weapon on his way home, fleeing from the Warakapola Rehabilitation Centre where he was serving a sentence.

The Mahiyangana Police arrested the boy at Kongas junction, Medayaya on Monday with the stolen motorcycle at Kailagoda area in Badulla.

The Police also said that the boy has been dealt with by the law on an earlier occasion for keeping a pistol in his possession at his age of 14 years.

Police Spokesman SP Prishantha Jayakody said that the boy was in the Warakapola Rehabilitation Centre serving a sentence after he was convicted on April 21, 2011 in connection with a case filed before the Dehiattakandiya Magistrate.
