Visual art studio

Wasantha Namaskara

Wasantha Namaskara’s 84th visual art exhibition titled Sadaham Sithivili will be held to coincide with the opening of Sri Sambuddhatva Jayanthi visual art studio under the patronage of Senior Lecturer Ven Olaganvatte Chandrasiri Thera at Sri Vidyananda Privena, Matale on May 17. The exhibition will be held till May 31 at the studio.

Art is not new to the Buddhist temple culture. Actually a Buddhist shrine room resembles a small art studio. Unlike many other studios it is revered by many devotees. A Buddha statue is a visual art that has the ability to make one’s mind concentrated into one sphere.

Other paintings and sculptures too have this ability to increase the inner-flowering. However new research in Buddhist visual art has become rare. This situation has forcibly given up the discourse of conveying deep teachings through Buddhist visual art. Namaskara’s intention is to introduce the Buddha’s teachings through Buddhist visual art. He opines that every temple should provide space for a visual art studio, which should essentially be a part of the shrine room.

Namaskara’s works could be accessed on www.wasanthanamaskara.blogspot.com.
