'Biyagama PS will be turned into a model village'

The inaugural meeting of the UPFA-led Biyagama Pradeshiya Sabha was
held at its auditorium, presided by Chairman Ananda Ganepola and Deputy
Chairman Kalum Thushara Wijayalath recently.
Nearly all Pradeshiya Sabha member excepting the only JVP member,
were present at its first session.
The Biyagama PS comprises 13 UPFA members including Chairman and
Deputy Chairman, eight UNP members, one Independent and one JVP member.
Addressing the meeting the Chairman said, the Biyagama Pradeshiya
Sabha was ruled by the UNP for nine years (two consecutive terms) during
which period, a vast amount of public funds had been squandered for
garbage disposal as the contract was given to private companies.
The Chairman said that he would never let such a thing occure as long
as the PS exists.
A dearth of minor staff and lack of vehicles (tractors) for garbage
disposal at this Pradeshiya Sabha would be rectified as soon as per PS
act, he added.
The Dengue eradication programme too would be given priority and he
would leave no stone unturned to eradicate the menace from the area
completely or as much as possible, with the help of public and private
sector in the area, he said.
He said he would take all necessary steps to provide a Muslim burial
ground which was long felt need for Muslims in Yathihena GS Division
which comes under the purview of the Biyagama PS.
The Chairman said the country had got a pragmatic leader and likewise
we in Gampaha District have got another leader of the same calibre such
as Basil Rajapaksa.
He urged all members to be punctual and be clad in decent costume
during PS session and work together to make Biyagama PS the most
efficient PS in the country.
Biyagama PS opposition leader and former chairman M.A.M. Prasanna
Sampath (UNP) who got highest preferencial votes (17505) in the country
and M.S. Thimalka Poththewela (UPFA) who got second highest among female
candidates were congratulated by all members at this session. |
