Construction work on two more housing villages to commence
The construction work on two more housing villages under the
Janasevana one million houses programme is due to commence in Walapane
and Naranthalawa areas in the Nuwara Eliya district and in Ganga Ihala
Udagama in the Kandy district at functions to be held under the
patronage of Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and Common
Amenities Minister Wimal Weerawansa. The number of houses to be
constructed in the Ganga Ihala Divisional Secretariat Division is 100.
More than Rs. 30 million will be allocated for this purpose.
In addition Rs 15 million has been set apart for providing common
amenities and infrastructure facilities for this project.
Construction work on this project will commence on May 6. These
houses will be distributed among 100 landless families in the
Nawalapitiya electorate. Work on the Walapane Naranthalawa housing
project will commence on May 7, comprising 35 houses at a cost of Rs 7
million.
A sum of Rs one million has been set apart for the development of
common amenities.
These houses are to be distributed among families rendered homeless
due to recent floods.
Work on both these housing projects is being undertaken by the
National Housing Development Authority under the guidance of Minister
Wimal Weerawansa.
Minister Weerawansa has instructed the officials to take action for
the distribution of these houses to the people within the next 6 months.
