Information about historical sites on Internet
Under ICTA'S e-society program:
Information about religious sites of historical and archaeological
importance is being added to the internet. This is being carried out
under the e-society Programme of the Information and Communication
Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA).
As a step in this endeavour information about the Tantirimale
Rajamaha temple and archaeologically valuable information about
Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa have been put on the internet. While
photographs relevant to each information have been included, one could
feel of the sites almost as if he was visiting the locations physically,
by viewing them on the internet. This is because the photographs
available for view on the internet have been taken from various angles.
You could have this vicarious experience of the Tantirimale Rajamaha
temple on www.tantrimale.net and for similar enjoyment of the
archaeological aspects of Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa the relevant
website is www. ancientruins.lk.
These websites are available both in the English and Sinhala media.
ICTA Chief Executive Officer Reshan Dewapura said that it was
important that it had been possible to have information about places of
historical importance in Sri Lanka thus entered on the internet.
Efforts will be made to extend this endeavour to other sites of
historical and archaeological importance.
