Sambuddhathva Jayanthi:

Composer of official song felicitated

Artistes who helped create the official song for the 2600 Sambuddhathva Jayanthi were felicitated by the Buddha Sasana and Religious Affairs Ministry at the Ministry premises recently. Veteran lyricist and official composer of the 2600 Sambuddhathva Jayanthi official song Sunil Sarath Perera said he composed the song when he was Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Kuwait.

Perera said he utilized old Sinhala books such as the Amawathura to compose this song which tells the story of the Buddha’s Enlightenment in brief.

He said the song is not like a general buddhist devotional song. I did a lot of research and reflection to decide on the theme of the song. “I think I was able to recreate the essence and Importance of the Buddha’s Enlightenment through word’s, he said.

Presidential Advisor and Veteran Composer Rohana Weerasinghe said he got tremendous satisfaction composing the music for the song and Sunil Sarath Perera’s lyrics made his task easier.

Buddhasasana and Religious Affairs Ministry Secretary Casion Herath said this is a very important event in our lifetime.

The 2600 Sambuddhathva Jayanthi Presidential Steering Committee Secretary K Kalupahana also spoke at the event. All artistes who were involved in the making of the song were felicitated.
