Atapattu first to score an ODI ton

It was another rainy affair as Sri Lanka who finally showed their class posted a splendid total of 251 for 5 in 48 overs against Ireland but had to just curse and wait as the game was abandoned yet again.

The ridiculous schedule of matches knowing that the seasonal rain is at its most fearsome stages is just shocking as it is the third time that a Lankan game has been washed out in this Final less Quadrangular making it a comedy of errors. For Sri Lanka Chamari Atapattu scored a magnificent 111 of 110 balls thus becoming the first Lankan woman to score an ODI hundred. Chamari stroked 17 hits to the rope and one huge six in her monumental knock.

Stand in Captain Dilani Manodara remained 43 not out. M.Cullen took 3 for 51 for the Irish side and was responsible for the prize scalp of Atapattu.

The game between Netherlands women and Pakistan women was reduced to a 20-over match but still there could be no play after Netherlands’ innings. The Dutch were on 68 for 6 after their allotted 20 overs and rain again abandoned the game.

The series has been an absolute waste of time, money and energy for the teams as well as the spectators and tomorrow also there is a huge possibility that the two games will be abandoned due to a torrid rain fall.
