Rural bridges to be constructed
The Cabinet of Ministers on a proposal by the Economic Development
Minister has decided to construct 210 permanent bridges in rural areas.
Under the Maga Neguma project, 9,400 km of rural access roads have
been modernized.
But, due to absence of rural bridges these development have met with
some hurdles.
The Cabinet has decided to accept a proposal made by Cleveland Bridge
UK Ltd to construct permanent steel bridges from six - 30 metres
covering the whole island with a loan facility a Rs 6,212.50 million.
Wilakandiya Tank to be restored
Cabinet Approval was started to restore the Wilakandiya Tank in the
Mahiyangana Divisional Secretary's division in the Badulla District at a
cost of Rs 8 million on a proposal by Irrigation and Water Resources
Management Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva.
Fishnet factory to be developed
On a proposal by Traditional Industries and Small Enterprise
Development Minister Douglas Devananda Cabinet approval was granted to
develop and expand fishnet factory at Gurunagar in the Jaffna.
Rs 152 million financial assistance will be obtained from the Indian
Government under its small grant assistance program to develop the
factory damaged during the conflict.
Three storied building
On a proposal by Public Administration and Home Affairs Minister W D
J Seneviratne Cabinet approved the construction of three storied
building for the Nuwaragampalatha - East - Divisional Secretariat in the
Anuradhapura District at a cost of Rs 22.5 million.
Water supply scheme
On a proposal by the President as Finance and Planning Minister
Cabinet approval was granted to enter into a grant agreement with the
Asian Development Bank to obtain a grant of US $1.5 million to implement
the Eechchalampattu and Point- Pedro water supply scheme.
Under the Conflict Affected Region Emergency (CARE) Project the Asian
Development Bank has provided US $150 million to implement a multi-sectoral-
project in the Northern and North Central Provinces which consists of
projects such as road connectivity, provision of basic utilities, basic
social services and infrastructure.
Four projects
On a proposal by the President as the Finance Minister Cabinet was
granted to enter into a loan agreement with the Korean Economic
Development Fund of the Export -Import Bank to obtain a loan equivalent
to US $ 33,536 million to construct four solid waste disposal facility
centres. The Export - Import Bank of Korea has agreed to provide this
loan in Korean Won equivalent to US $33,536,000 to finance this project.
