Lanka requests enhanced Haj quotas

Sri Lanka requested the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Wednesday for an
enhanced Haj quota for the next pilgrimage season.

The appeal was made by a high-level delegation from Colombo during a
meeting with Haj Minister Dr Fouad Al-Farsy at the Haj Ministry in
Jeddah on Wednesday.
The delegation led by Urban Affairs Senior Minister A H M Fowzie
included Western Province Governor Alavi Mowlana, Environment Deputy
Minister A R M Abdul Cader, Technology and Research Deputy Minister
Faizer Musthafa and Muslim Religious Cultural Affairs Director Y L M
Navavi.
The island's ambassador Ahmed A. Jawad and its Consul General
Sabarullah Khan were also present during the discussions.
Speaking to Daily News following the meeting, Minister Fowzie said he
had requested for an increase quota of pilgrims from the present 5,800
to 8,000 this year.
Considering the reasons for the request, Fowzie said the Haj Minister
promised to consider the request favourably. |
