‘Europe, UN want division among SL communities’
“European countries and the United Nations want to see division among
the Sinhala, Muslim and Tamil communities who have been coexisting for
centuries in Sri Lanka,” said Resettlement Deputy Minister
Vinayagamurthi Muralitharan.
He was speaking at the foundation stone laying ceremony of a building
at Murukkan Hindu College in the Kilinochchi district.
Hambantota district parliamentarian and Tharunyata Hetak Organization
chairman Namal Rajapaksa MP was the chief guest.
The deputy minister noted that the Tamil Diaspora has not spent a
single cent for Northern province development which had been battered by
the war.
He said the government is committed to taking every effort to ensure
that people in the North will never face misery and agony as they faced
during the last three decades. The deputy minister recollected how he
was involved in politics while he was schooling. Muralitharan added that
he participated in political rallies and listened to politicians’
speeches.
“They were our heroes and we took arms on their orders,” he added.
Deputy minister Muralitharan said that he was among the youth who
became combatants, fighting the government, while the children of such
politicians were studying overseas. He noted that these politicians
became puppets when the youth combatants including him, understood the
reality.
Muralitharan added that the entire Eastern province is being
developed and more development projects are to be implemented in the
Northern province. The government has allocated over Rs 38 billion for
the development activities in the Northern province. Resettlement
Minister Gunarathna Weerakoon and Engineering Services, Housing and
Common Amenities Minister Wimal Weerawanasa were present. |
