Ushan and Supeshala youth chess champions

Ushan Samarakone of Royal College won the title in the National Youth
Chess Championship open section by beating Chamika Perera of Trinity
College while Supeshala Thilakawardena of Musaeus College emerged girls
under 18 champion when she overcame Lumbini Ambanwela of Mahamaya
College, Kandy.
The tournament, organized by Chess Federation of Sri Lanka concluded
at Public Library, Colombo and the award ceremony was held at Royal
College, recently.
The tournament comprised of qualified players from 13 districts in
earlier rounds.
Chamika and Ushan being tied up for the top spot in under 18 open
section with 5.5 points each went on to a tie breaker and the latter
succeeded in winning the title while Ushan walked away with the silver
medal. Sachini Ranasinghe of Musaeus College , who was recently awarded
Women International Master (WIM) contested well with internationally
rated players and grabbed the bronze medal.
Anjana Perera of Mahamaya College , Kandy lost to her schoolmate
Lumbini to be satisfied with the bronze.
Dimithri Premachandra of Kalutara Vidyalaya won under 16 National
Youth Chess title by defeating Lahiru Munasinghe of Ananda College while
Dinushki Premanath of Girls High School retained the under 16 girls
champion with half a point ahead of Irindu Basnayake of the same
college. Kavindi Senarath of Musaeus College became the third with 5
points.
Under 18 open event: 1. Ushan Samarakone (Royal College, 5.5 points),
2. Chamika Perera (Trinity College, 5.5 points), 3. Sachini Ranasinghe
(Musaeus College, 5.5 points).
Under 16 boys: 1. Dimithri Premachandra (Kalutara Vidyalaya, 5.5
points), 2. Lahiru Munasinghe (Ananda College, 5.5 points), 3. K A P M
Ariyawansa (Vidyartha College, 5.0 points).
Under 14 boys event: 1. Kashyapa Kulasekara (Vidyartha College, 6.0
points), 2. K G M G Bandara (Kingswood College, 6.0 points), 3. M H N
Kumara (Vidyartha College, 5.5 points).
Under 12 boys: 1. T T M D C T Tennakoon (Gampaha Bandaranayake
College 7.0 points), 2. H M A K Herath (Maliyadewa College, 6.0 points),
3. Mojitha Gunaratne (Ananda College,6.0 points).
Under 10 boys: 1. S Anojman (Royal College), 2. Chamath Weerasinghe
(Ananda College), 3. I M A Visura (Rahula College).
Under 8 boys event: 1. Harshana Thilakaratne (Maliyadewa College 7.0
points), 2. Rayan Weerasinghe (St. Joseph's College, Anuradhapura, 6.0
points), 3. Ranidu Dilshan Liyanage (Ananda College, 5.5 points).
Under 18 girls event: 1. Supeshala Thilakawardena (Musaeus College
6.0 points), 2. Lumbini Ambanwela (Mahamaya College, Kandy, 5.5 points)
3. Anjana Perera (Mahamaya College, Kandy, 5.0 points).
Under 16 girls: 1. Dinushki Premanath (Girls High School 6.0 points),
