St. Patrick's win Noel Vimalendran trophy
St. Patrick's, Jaffna won the coveted Noel Vimalendran Trophy by
beating their arch rivals Jaffna College in the Final of the Twenty - 20
Cricket Tournament conducted by Jaffna College played on April 13.
Fifteen schools including schools from the south participated in this
tournament.
The entire tournament was sponsored by Commercial Bank of Ceylon PLC.
Batting first St. Patrick's scored a mammoth 197 for 7 wkts in their
allotted 20 overs. In reply Jaffna College were shot out for 96 runs.
The highlights of the match were a match winning 97 runs by Tuder of
St. Patrick's and an outstanding bowling performance of 4 for 11 by
Nobert, another Patrician. For the 3rd spot Kokkuvil Hindu clashed with
Mahajana in which Kokkuvil Hindu made a challenging 169 for 7 wkts and
won the game by 79 runs.
Mahajana boys scored only 90 runs. The highlights were a half century
(57) by Ragulan of Kokkuvil Hindu and the bowling feat of Sampavan 3 for
15 and Uthayakumar 2 for 7, both from Kokkuvil Hindu.
The preliminary matches were played on April 7 while the
quarter-finals and the semi-finals were played on April 8 and 9. The
opening ceremony of this Tournament was graced by S P Rajievan, Regional
Manager, Commercial Bank, Northern Province.
The prize winners of the tournament:
Man of the Match: G. R. Tuder of St. Patrick's College.
Best Player: P. Pangayan of Kokkuvil Hindu College (aggregate of 177
runs and 8 wkts).
Highest scorer: T. R. Tuder of St. Patrick's College (aggregate of
177 runs).
Highest wicket taker: T. Priyalaxan of Jaffna College (a total of 12
wkts)
The chief guest for the finals was T. Devarayan, Senior Manager,
Commercial Bank, Jaffna.
