Was it a tremor?

Officials of the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau and the Hambantota District Secretariat yesterday visited Kirinda and Yala where several houses were damaged by a suspected tremor.

Officials inspected the cracks that appeared in several houses following this incident and spoke to residents.

According to Geological Survey and Mines Bureau Director General MP Wijayananda, initial investigations have revealed that it was not a tremor. He said officials investigating into the incidents have upheld that it was not a tremor after a close study of the cracks and the way the houses have been damaged. GSMB officials are conducting further investigations, he said.
