Committee to look into postal malpractices

A three member committee has been appointed to investigate into fraud and corruption in the postal service, a Postal Services Ministry official said.

On the advice of Postal Services Minister Jeewan Kumaranathunga, the three member Committee has been appointed by Postal Services Ministry Secretary Hemasiri Fernando. The members are former judge C.N. Nihal Silva, former Secretary of Sports and Youth Affairs Ministry S Vijithamulla and former Secretary of Post and Telecommunications Ministry C Maliyadda.

The Committee will look into issues such as misconduct, frauds and corruptions revealed by several print and electronic media during the recent past. Accordingly, the Committee will closely evaluate and analyse these allegations. After investigating, the Committee will forward recommendations to the Postal Services Minister.
