Clubbed to death

Acting on an anonymous telephone call given at midnight, Nawalapitiya Police found a person lying at Jayasundara Mawatha with cut injuries in both legs and severe head injuries caused by clubbing and rushed him to the Nawalapitiya District General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Nawalapitiya Magistrate Poornima Paranagama visited the place and held the inquiry.

The body was identified by the wife of the deceased as M Sanoor (54), a resident of Owita, Nawalapitiya.

It is reported that the victim had been a notorious gangster and an acid throwing case is pending against him. He had been in jail several times on murder charges.
