Living with nature:

School, key to relay message

"School is the most suitable place to send a message to society about the way of living with the nature," said Environment Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa participating at the award ceremony of the Pilisaru Pivithuru Pasal 2010 programme held at the Central Environmental Authority recently.

The Pilisaru Pivithuru Pasal 2010 programme was organized by the Central Environmental Authority, Pilisaru National Solid Waste Management program and Environmental study and Awareness Unit.

The main objective of the programme was to develop knowledge, skills and attitudes of schoolchildren and the public.

The minister said it is our duty to control environmental pollution and use environmental resources in a proper way. Central Environmental Authority Chairman Charitha Herath said Sri Lanka is at the top in environmental literacy. The CEA has the responsibility of providing environmental education. Pilisaru Pivithuru Pasal program Director Lal Fernando, Central Environment Authority officials, Principals, teachers and students participated.
