Errant traders in hot water

Over 70 errant traders have been charged for trading irregularities during March and the first week of April under a special raid programme launched in view of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year festival by the Galle district Consumer Protection Authority office. The investigation is aimed to nab traders who charge exorbitant prices for textiles and food items, selling textiles and food items of inferior in quality and expired essentials.

Common irregularities detected by the investigating officers include non-display of price tags on consumer items, sale of expired food items, manipulating of price tags, sale of rice at higher rates and non display of price lists.

Investigators advised the public to be vigilant when purchasing goods during the festive season.

The public can contact 091-3929812 for complaints against errant traders.
