UN Habitat session in Kenya:
Lanka to focus on Jana Sevana houses programme
The Sri Lankan delegation participating at the 23rd session of the
governing council of the United Nations Human Settlement Program (UN
Habit) to be held from April 11 to 15 at the UN Habitat Headquarters,
Nairobi, Kenya will highlight the Sri Lankan experience, the present
Million Houses Programme with the formation of low-income settlement
programme and low-cost housing activities in rural areas of the Northern
housing Programme.
The Sri Lankan delegation at this conference will be led by
Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities
Minister Wimal Weerawansa. Ministry Secretary Gotabaya Jayaratne,
National Housing Development Authority (NHDA) Chairman Jayantha
Samaraweera, NHDA General Manager L S Palansuriya and Ministry Senior
Assistant Secretary Dammika Wijesinghe will also participate.
This year the theme of the Governing Council is 'Sustainable urban
development through expanding equitable access to land, housing, basic
services and infrastructure.' The 23rd session of the Governing Council
will be attended by Government Ministers, senior officials and other
representatives of Governments making up the Council as well as
UN-Habitat Agenda partners who will deliberate on these issues as well
as climate change and its impact on cities. |
