Scholars honoured with awards

Ten scholars received special awards in recognition of their excellent services in the field of archaeology at the International Association for Asian Heritage Sessions held at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute Colombo Thursday.

Ven Ellawala Medhananda Thera was awarded the Senarath Paranavithana memorial award for his services in the field of archaeology. Cultural and Arts Affairs Minister T B Ekanayake was awarded the Sir William Hendry Gregory memorial award and National Heritage Minister Jagath Balasuriya was awarded the Sir D B Jayathilaka memorial awarded.

Others who received awards were Sir William Joba memorial award -Dr Roland Silva, Ananda Coomaraswamy mentioned award -Prof Senake Bandaranaike, Prof Prasanna Kumar Archariya award -Prof P L Premathilake, Prof P E T Deraniyagala award - Prof G L Badamn, Prof Neelakantha Sastri award - Prof Mendis Rohanadeera, Prof H D Sankaliya Award- Dr Shiran Deraniyagala.

Prof Wimal Balagalle, Prof Nimal De Silva, Prof Dilip Chakvarthi, Dr Hema Gunathilake, Prof Sunanda Mahendra Prof Oliver Abenayake, Prof S T Basnayake, Prof Chandra Wickrama Gamage, Prof Sirinimal Lakdusinghe and Prof D S Disna were offered the Fellowship of the International Association for Asian Heritage at this session.
