For not carryingout Court orders:

Police officials to be penalized

Panadura Provincial High Court Judge Amal Thilakaratne stated that the Court had to deal with the Police officers who do not deliver warrants to accused and witnesses who were evading Court trials. The Court is empowered by the Criminal Procedure Code to deal with such Police officers.

The Judge stated that Court had issued warrants on accused and witnesses in some cases. The warrants had been forwarded to the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Western Province to arrest the accused and witnesses. The DIG had not carried out Court orders and therefore Court intends to implement the General Procedure Code in future.

The two cases which were called before Court had been postponed.
