Tobacco Company caught promoting products

Excise sleuths yesterday, raided a star class hotel in Battaramulla, while a tobacco company was promoting its products to hotel employees in contravention of the Tobacco and Alcohol Control Act.

Department officials said that they had taken into custody hoardings and billboards which were being used for promotional campaigns. According to Excise Superintendent Prabath Jayawickrema, this company had conducted these types of promotional campaign before.

A team of Excise Department officials led by Superintendent Prabath Jayawickrema, conducted the raid on the instructions of Excise Commissioner General Wasantha Hapuarachchi.
