SLFP General Secretary Maithripala Sirisena yesterday said that the
heads of Local Government institutions won by the UPFA should discharge
their duties honestly and stern action would be taken against them if
they are found guilty of corruption or malpractices.
They should exercise utmost restraint in discharging their duties to
the public. Minister Sirisena added that the Central Committee of the
Party decided to hold disciplinary inquiries against the members and the
heads of Local Government institutions if it receives complaints of
corruption and malpractices.
“They should protect the dignity of the party and the party leader,”
the Minister added.
Addressing a special Press briefing at the Presidential Secretariat ,
Minister Sirisena said nominations were not given to the candidates who
were found guilty of disciplinary charges by the nomination board.
The Minister noted that investigations into the heads and the members
of the Local Government institutions would continue irrespective of the
fact that they were re-elected to the Local Government bodies through
the last Local Government election.
The Minister stressed that the heads of Local Government institutions
found guilty on charges of corruption or malpractices would be stripped
of their posts and new members would be appointed to such posts.
