Ensuring electronic waste free Lanka

The Central Environmental Authority (CEA) will observe electronic waste day on April 7 at Campbell Park to ensure an electronic waste free Sri Lanka.

The program for electronic waste management has been initiated by the CEA since November last year in collaboration with 14 private companies. The disposed electronic items at homes and workplaces have given rise to new environmental challenge. Heavy metal in electronic equipment when disposed to the environment pollute water and soil in the environment.

Used items such as computer parts, televisions, mobile phones, fax machines, air-conditioners etc released to the environment can be harmful.

The CEA Chairman has requested the public to handover disposed electronic equipment at the ceremony at Campbell Park and contribute to the task of making Sri Lanka environmental friendly. Public can also handover disposed electronic equipment at Singer showrooms throughout the country. For more information about the collecting centres contact 1919.
