Marians held to a draw

Kegalu Vidyalaya held St Mary’s College, Kegalle to a draw in their
33rd ‘Battle of the Golds’ played at the Public Ground, Kegalle
yesterday.
On the first day 150 minutes of play was lost to rain and on the
second day, bad light stopped play at 5.15 pm and after a couple of
inspections umpire called off play at 6 pm.
Marians who were put into bat by their rivals were precariously
placed at one stage with the scoreboard reading 119 for 9 before a last
ditch stand of 39 between Chathuranga Ranaweera 40 (4 fours, 1 six) and
Prince Jayakumar 5 not out helped them to total 158. Off spinner Udara
Tillekasiri took 4 for 38.
Kegalu Vidyalaya in their turn at the wickets did not fare too well
against the all spin attack of the Marians. Only a stubborn knock of 29
by Udara Tillekasiri prevented them being dismissed for a total less
than 100. Off spinner Malinda Gunaratne took 5 for 42 and leg spinner
Prince Jayakumar had figures of 4 for 27.
St Mary’s College in their second essay declared at 116 for 6 with
skipper Malinda Gunaratne stroking a brilliant 68 with 9 fours. Left arm
spinner Samadhi Dissanayake captured 6 for 40 giving him a match-bag of
9 for 92.
At close Kegalu Vidyalaya were 3 for 1.

Ratnayake 11, Udara Tillekasiri 29, Malinda Gunaratne 5 for 42, Prince
Jayakumar 4 for 27) and 3 for 1 in 0.3 overs (Malinda Gunaratne 1 for
3).
WP Netball Tourney on April 9 and 23
The All Island Invitation Netball Tournament organised by the Western
Province Netball Association will be held at the Pedris Park, Colombo 5
on April 9 and 23.
All clubs affiliated to the Association and the clubs invited from
the rest of the island are due to participate.
It will be held in five divisions. The D and E Divisions will be for
over 35 and mixed teams. The application forms sent out by the
Association must reach the Secretary - WPNA on or before March 30.
Wayamba Royal in outright win

Wayamba Royal College, Kurunegala recorded outright win agaist Sir
John Kotelalwela College in their 7th ‘big match’ (Battle of Wayamba)
played at Welegedera stadium on Saturday and Sunday.
Wayamba Royal vice captain claimed 5 wickets for 15 runs in the first
innings giving his team the advantage for their outright win.
