Talawakelle Plantations retained the Inter-Plantations Cup Championship for the second year running when they beat Bogowantalawa Plantations by the big margin of 38 points (4 goals 2 tries) to nil in the rugby tournament organised by the 142 year old Dickoya Maskeliya Cricket Club and sponsored by Sri Lanka Telecom and Mobitel and Co-sponsored by Singer Sri Lanka (Pvt) Limited and worked off at the Picturesque Darrawela grounds in Dickoya over the weekend.

A very large crowd turned up to witness this battle between Plantation Companies in the island and excellent fare was dished out for the rugby fans in this Salubrious Plantation region.

A total of 15 plantation companies participated which was one more than last year. The participating teams were Talawakelle Plantations, Bogowantalawa Plantations, Kotagala Plantations, Watawala Plantations, Maskeliya Plantations, Elpitiya Plantations, Horana Plantations, Kegalle Plantations, Malwatte Valley Plantations, Kelani Valley Plantations, Namunukula Plantations, Hapugastenna Plantations, Pussellawa Plantations, Agrapatana Plantations and Agalawatte Plantations.

An overjoyed President of Dickoya Maskeliya Cricket Club - the former Trinity College and upcountry forward Dushan Ratwatte said, that this tournament was a big success and he thanked the sponsors and the organising committee for a job well done.

This was the seventh time this tournament roping in the best rugby talent from the plantations in the country was organised by Dickoya Maskeliya CC.

The cup finals saw hardly any contest and the reigning champions Talawakelle Plantations virtually overran Bogowantalawa Plantations crossing their opponents line six times. Their three quarter displayed plenty of punch to slice through their opponents defence. Winger Prasanna Gotabhaya was in spanking form running in three tries. He richly deserved the award “Most Outstanding Player of the Tournament.”
